The Highlander remake starring Henry Cavill has received an update from director Chad Stahelski of John Wick. He made an announcement about it during San Diego Comic-Con. The Highlander revival starring Henry Cavill is still in the works, according to Stahelski. He also reassured fans that “it is still happening.”
In the 1986 release of the first Highlander movie, Christopher Lambert played the legendary Connor MacLeod of the sixteenth century. A centuries battle between eternal warriors who fight to the death to absorb one another’s powers so that there can be “only one” was the main story of the entire movie. Although it could only be one Highlander, there was more than one Highlander movie in the series. After Highlander’s first release, Highlander II and Highlander III followed in the 1990s. Then Highlander: Endgame debuted at the start of the new millennium. The fourth movie starred Adrian Paul as Duncan MacLeod, the main character of the six-season television series Highlander: The Series. It also gave rise to other flimsy spin-off series in the 1990s.
Henry Cavill Is the Ideal Candidate to Resurrect Highlander, According to Chad Stahelski
In May 2021, it was initially revealed that Cavill would be a part of the Highlander remake. Additionally, Chad Stahelski already clarified why he thinks the Justice League actor is the ideal choice to resurrect the Highlander franchise. He said,
Stahelski said that Henry was undoubtedly physically gifted. But if you can’t also convey the empathy of a character who has lived for 500 years, that doesn’t matter much. Therefore he needed someone who could do both. The timeframe of the character’s emotional development is extended by the fact that his story spans hundreds of years and that he takes on numerous personalities.
My doubts were then verified when we first met. Henry started talking about the burden of immortality right away, and everyone could see in his eyes how he could change from being a young, energetic soul to an old, knowledgeable soul. He has this combination that impresses me, Stahelski said.
Furthermore, he said, “the other thing you could see was his genuineness”. He loves the legend and what he thinks he can accomplish with it. Therefore, you’re going to get something special from an actor who has that amount of passion. Finally, Stahelski said that when you met him, and after spending 10 minutes with him you think: “He’s cool, I want to hang out with this guy.”
Cavill said he will appear in the Highlander franchise.
The actor himself commented on the news when it was revealed that Cavill would be participating. He declared his love for the series and announced that he will play the lead.
“Since I was a young boy, I have enjoyed watching Highlander. From the films in each of their 80s to the TV show.” Cavill spoke about the 1980s film and 1990s television series starring Adrian Paul.
This is a unique opportunity since I’m not afraid of swords and Chad Stahelski is such a brilliant director. With all the resources at our fingertips, we’re diving deep into the franchise and making this an experience I’ll never forget (and certainly all of you), Cavill said.
We’re getting closer than ever to the Highlander remake.
There hasn’t been much information on the Highlander remake since that announcement, but there is now. Stahleski provided a brief but encouraging insight into Highlander’s current production phase in a recent interview with Collider. The news that the Highlander reboot is “closer than we’ve ever been” will delight movie fans.
The original Highlander film, which was released in 1986, is about an eternal Scottish swordsman called Connor MacLeod. Born in the early 1500s, he is entrusted with fighting other immortal individuals in the current day to prevent the evil Kurgan from gathering all eternal power. Christopher Lambert played the title character, with Celia Imrie, Clancy Brown, Roxanne Hart, and Sean Connery filling out the cast. It has inspired four live-action movies, one animated sequel, three tv series, a web series, and countless books, comics, and video games over the years.
When will it be released?
Stahelski is now finishing up production on John Wick: Chapter 4. It is the highly anticipated fourth part in the franchise starring Keanu in the titular role. Cavil is also busy with The Witcher as well as other projects, like the next Enola Holmes sequel. Schedules must line before shooting can begin, as is typically the case with Hollywood’s franchise actors. We don’t know when the rumored Highlander remake will begin filming. But it appears that the crucial characters are still in the position to make it succeed someday.
