Good Omens Season 2: Release date, Cast, and Everything

Neil Gaiman responds to questions about when the Good Omens season 2 trailer will be released, saying that it isn’t coming anytime soon.

Good Omens was released to the public on Amazon Prime Video in 2019. Based on Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett’s novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. The show revolves around the angel Aceraphale (Michael Sheen) and the demon Crowley (David Tennant).  These two friends enjoy their time on earth and want to prevent it from being destroyed by Armageddon, the final battle between heaven and hell.

Gaiman released a mini-episode called Good Omens: Lockdown in mid-2020.  But the show was still originally marketed as a limited series.  However, Amazon renewed Good Omens for another season in 2021, with Gaiman serving as co-showrunner.

Will there be a season 2?

In June 2021, Prime Video announced the renewal and since then fans of the beloved supernatural series have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of Season 2.  However, show creator Neil Gaiman recently gave an update on when fans can expect to see the new trailer.  Filming was completed in March 2022.  The show is currently busy with post-production, and it looks like all that hard work is finally paying off as everything comes together for a summer premiere.

In response to a question posed by a fan as to why a trailer for Good Omens Season 2 has not yet been released, Neil Gaiman explained on his Tumblr that it’s not uncommon for trailers to be released so close to the show’s air date.  There he said using the example of his other TV series, The Sandman, which took a long time to produce the first trailer.

“It’s just you. But if it’s any consolation it was worse for Sandman. We didn’t release the trailer until it was time to release the trailer by which point people on Twitter were already claiming it had been secretly canceled for being woke and would never be released. Good Omens Season 2 won’t be released until the summer. If we release a trailer now we’ll have at least 6 months of people baffled that it’s not out yet. Sometimes you release a trailer early. Doctor Who has just released a trailer eleven months early. But that’s serving a lot of functions, most importantly restoring confidence in the new-old team of Russell T Davies and David Tennant.”

What to expect from season 2?

Good Omens follows the fascinating story of two divine beings, the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, who work together to prevent the end of the world.  A newborn child, the Antichrist, threatens the balance of the world by causing chaos.  However, Aziraphale and Crowley do not know that the child they hunted has been swapped at birth with another child.  As ancient prophecies begin to come true and the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse approaches, both Heaven and Hell prepare for the final showdown.

Who is the Season 2 cast?

With the huge success of the first season, Michael Sheen and David Tennant are set to reprise their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley in the highly anticipated second season of Good Omens.  In addition to Michael Sheen and David Tennant, other actors returning for the first season of Good Omens include Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as the Archangel Gabriel and Derek Jacobi (Gosford Park) as the “Voice of God” also called Metatron, Niamh Walsh (The Sandman) as a Nazi agent from 1941 Greta Kleinschmidt, Mark Gatiss (The League of Gentlemen) as a bookseller from 1941 Mr.  Harmony, Steve Pemberton (Inside No. 9), Mr. Glossier, Reece Shearsmith (High-Rise), famous English playwright William Shakespeare, Doon Mackichan (The Day Today) as Archangel Michael and Gloria Obianyo (Dune) as Archangel Uriel.

Season 2 also introduces several new characters, some of which are played by actors from the first season.  Here’s what we know about them based on interviews and press releases

Quelin Sepulveda describes the actress who plays Muriel as “beguiling and intriguing.”  According to Gaiman, Muriel has spent the last 6,000 years in a boring office job.  She wanted out of it.  As shown in the NYCC clip, Muriel has come to Earth to meet Aziraphale and Crowley.  She tells the former that she is human, but the latter is suspicious of her presence.  Because this preview also shows that Muriel, struggling to drink tea with a cup of tea in her hand, does not know how to behave like a man.  Sepulveda has only appeared in two short films.  Those are Late Nights at the Movies and The Other End, and two episodes of the Showtime series The Man Who Fell to Earth.  But she appears in the upcoming action-thriller Havoc starring Tom Hardy, Timothy Olyphant, and Forest Whitaker.

Maggie Service plays Maggie, a record store owner who runs a business next door to Aziraphale’s bookstore in Soho.  Service played Teresa Garrulas, the Satanic nun in the first season.  She has also appeared in several other shows, including Red Dwarf and Quiz as well as the 2015 film London Road, Doctor Who with Olivia Colman, Anita Dobson, and Tom Hardy.

Nina Sosanya plays Nina, whose “Give Me Coffee or Give Me Death” campaign is across from Maggie’s Record Store.  She is also reportedly adept at handling the Soho crowd.  Sosanya played the satanic nun sister Mary Loquacious and later reprised Mary Lodges in the first season.  She has appeared in several other shows such as Killing Eve, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, and His Dark Materials, as well as several films such as Love Actually, Manderlay, and Juliet, Naked.

Miranda Richardson plays Shax, a new demon who takes control of Crowley after he is banished from Hell.  Not much is known about her character at the moment, but her stone-cold appearance in a promotional image suggests that she is not someone to be taken lightly.  Richardson played human medium Madame Tracy in Season 1.  Also nominated for an Oscar and an Emmy, she appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, The Crying Game, and Chicken Run, as well as Merlin, Rubicon, and Parade’s End.

Shelley Conn plays the new Beelzebub, the leader of the forces of Hell.  Reportedly, this character will have a different name in Season 2.  So she is different from Beelzebub seen in Season 1. It’s unclear why Conn’s character is the new Beelzebub, but hopefully, this reason will be revealed soon.  Conn is best known for playing Lady Mary Sharma in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton and plays an uncredited lead in Prime Video’s upcoming superhero series The Boys: Gen V.

Good Omens Season 2 also introduces another new angel named Liz Carr (Silent Witness) Saraqael.  Other new actors include Siân Phillips (I, Claudius), Tim Downie (Outlander), Pete Firman (Peacock Season), Andi Osho (Line of Duty), and Alex Norton (The Count of Monte Cristo).

When will Good Omens Season 2 be released?

A good preview of the second panel of the season was revealed at the New York Comic Con (NYCC), which will be shown in the summer of 2023.  Although Amazon has started releasing new episodes of their shows on a weekly basis, it is still unclear whether Good Omens Season 2 will be released that way or at the same time as the first season.  But we hope to get an answer in the coming months.

Also, like the first season, Good Omens Season 2 will be six episodes long.  So let’s hope Neil Gaiman and the company once again tell a clear and concise story.
