Since Inside Out debuted in 2015, it has been a long time for Inside Out 2 to be released. However, the sequel was officially unveiled last September at D23. Amy Poehler took the stage alongside director Pete Docter to announce the production of Inside Out 2. It’s strange that it’s taken this long after Inside Out performed so well in 2015. It even won the Academy Award for Best Animated Picture that year. However, the wait is finally over; Inside Out 2 will be released in 2024 and is now under production.
Amy Poehler was clearly overjoyed when she revealed that Disney and Pixar would produce a sequel. The audience arose as she took the stage and announced that everyone’s beloved emotions would be returning for another journey inside Riley’s head. Docter also revealed that the crew would modify this time around as he passes the torch to a new director. Although it is still in the early stages of development, as Disney and Pixar prepare to look deeper into the world of emotions and mental health.

Where did Inside Out leave us?
Riley, an 11-year-old girl, was the focus of the original film, which followed her family’s relocation to a new place. At the conclusion of the film, Joy and Sadness collaborate to support Riley’s confession to her mom and dad that she keeps missing her old life and coping with the change. They establish a new “core memory” and started restoring the girl’s personality. When they notice a new button marked “Puberty” on their control center, their emotions give an indication of another major change.
Inside Out 2: The Plot
Inside Out famously set itself up for a sequel all of those years ago, and it now appears that Inside Out 2 intends to keep those promises. When Riley’s problems have been finally resolved at the final moment of Inside Out, Joy notices a large button with the word “Puberty” written on it and is tempted to click it. In the sequel, it appears that this group of emotions will return, however this time inside the mind of a young teen.
“We’re going to have what it feels like to be a teenager, the new emotions that live inside a young person’s brain,” she said. “In many ways, it was really exciting. We knew exactly where we were. We go to the teen brain and we see the madness that lives inside there.”
She continued by saying that the film will be more in-depth. Riley’s feelings will become increasingly important as she grows older, just as our own do. She even stated that the movie makers would look into mental health.

“A lot has happened since the first film in terms of emotional intelligence and how we think about mental health and how our emotions can affect us physically, and what’s really going on inside our head.”
For Inside Out 2, it appears that there is plenty of work to be done. Especially in comparison to dealing with a child’s problems, and discussing a teenager’s mental health is risky territory. Even though we all have trauma to cope with, there are particular mental sectors that can become quite heavy, and it appears that this sequel may take a mental approach to deal with somebody’s problems. The creators of Inside Out 2 need to be prepared to deal with some significant issues if they intend to explore how our mental state can impact our health and well-being.
The cast and crew of Inside Out 2
We are informed that there have been some crew and cast updates for the sequel, despite the fact that filming has only just begun. Pete Docter made the announcement that Kelsey Mann would take over as the film’s director in place of him. Although he has directed a few short films for Pixar, Mann is most well-known for his work as a storyboard artist. The most latest project he worked on was serving as a creative consultant for the TV show Monsters at Work. This appears to be his initial significant directing task.
However, some well-known actors from the Inside Out production team will also be making a comeback. Meg LeFauve, the author of the first film, has come back to work on the sequel, Docter and Poehler announced at D23. Additionally, a significant number of the cast mates will indeed return. As Joy, Amy Poehler would return. Phyllis Smith will further make a comeback as Sadness. Anger would be played again by Lewis Black. And Diane Lane will indeed perform Riley’s mother’s role once more. Mark Nielsen, the original producer, would also oversee the sequel.

Despite the fact that many of the essential members of the cast would be having returned, it appears that many were dropped. Mindy Kaling, who performed Disgust in the original film, recently claimed in an interview with The Movie Dweeb that she had “nothing to do” with Inside Out 2. However, it’s still early in the production process. It is indeed possible that Pixar is altering many members of its original ensemble cast to tell a different tale. However, occasionally, just like with these kinds of films, projects will be revealed and agreements may be reached with actors after the fact. Therefore, as filming progresses, it’s still possible that some additional recognizable names will be added to the cast.
The release date for Inside Out 2
